Orissa being one of the
poorer states of India has a sizable population belonging to
the backward communities and weaker sections i.e. the
scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. Of the total
geographical area, 23% is covered with hills and forests which
is the land of the Tribes and Indigenous People.
CART is
presently working in a few remote tribal and rural patches in
Orissa. Its major Action and Action Research programmes are
presently under implementation in Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh,
Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack and Bhadrak Districts of
Orissa State. Besides it has networking in other districts and
operating programmes through its sister organizations.
With its head
office in the State Capital, Bhubaneswar, it has field offices
in following four places:
